Centennial homage to the memory of Kalyani Sengupta was paid by hosting the first Kalyani Sengupta Memorial Lecture. Our guest, Dr. Mimasha Pandit delivered the lecture titled: Swadeshi Jatra: Art of Dissimulation & the Hidden Transcript of Resistance. isseminating research on different facets of the Swadeshi movement in the landscape of Indian independence movement. The lecture has been uploaded on youtube to disseminate an understanding of the sea change that Bengal's traditional Jatra Pala underwent in light of the resistance movements of 1905 in protest of the Partition of Bengal.
Additionally, we celebrated Kalyani Sengupta's by an initiative to revisit 'Kalyani's Swadeshi Ganer Bhandar'. In the 1934, Gandhiji's Civil Disobedience movement was at its peak and had captured the imagination of Indians. The spirit of the Swadeshi movement did not spare a 10 year old girl. The little Kalyani started a collection of Swadeshi songs. The first song in Kalyani's repository is Atul Prasad Sen's 'Bharat abar Jogot sobhay'. We acknowledge the untiring efforts of Dr. Chandrani Das (introduction), Smt. Esha Das (vocal) and Dr. Aditi Dasgupta (for the accompanying translation)
